14th October 2014 21:27 - Mr M. H, Somerset - Cameron House - a De Vere Hotel Resort

“Maintenance Fees are going through the roof.”

2nd October 2014 19:08 - Mr Terence M – De Vere - Slaley Hall

“Have 1 week at Slaley Hall, cannot afford the maintenance. Was told it would only ever increase around £10-20 a year. Since buying it has increased over 100%. Were never told that we could not hand timeshare back to the original company at time of sale. We cannot split week to take part at one time of the year and the rest another time. Feel totally lost, feel we were miss-sold, original price £XXXXX. Need Help!!!”

21st September 2014 10:40 - Mr David T - De Vere Belton Woods

“We have been told that we are unable to hand back they say that they are using credit agencies to collect outstanding fees We have looked at selling through them but have had no joy due to them having their own stock to sell.”

5th August 2014 10:18 - Mr Brian W - De Vere, Belton Woods

"Can no longer afford the maintenance fees. Anyone that wants it can have it."

4th August 2014 08:37 - Mr Stephen H, Northamptonshire - De Vere

"We wish to relinquish our week at Belton Woods. What are our options?"

1st August 2014 21:20 - Mr C H, Norfolk - De Vere, Belton Woods

"Rising maintenance costs, change of circumstances and no desire to pass this to our son when we pass away."

1st August 2014 10:52 - Ms Sarah G - De Vere Belton Woods

"Time share now virtually worthless - unreasonable increase in management fees - they have doubled since we bought it and the value of the timeshare has virtually gone."

22nd July 2014 11:18 - Mr Bill C, Nottinghamshire - De Vere Slaley Hall

"Service charge goes up 15% each year, timeshare now has no value. We were told we could sell or let our week but this has proved impossible. We strongly feel we were mis-sold this timeshare for which we paid £15,000."

Thursday 19th February 2016 04:15 - Mr & Mrs G - De Vere

1. An invitation was received.
2. Attended location in Belton Woods.
3. Purchased on the day.
4. Paid deposit of £1,610 against a purchase of £16,610.
5. The initial maintenance fee was £382.60.
6. The current fee is £843.24 and rising.
7. The contract was sold as perpetuity for over 99 years.
8. We felt pressured at the time of purchase as was informed we had a solid investment to take advantage.
9. We have used the timeshare about 3 times and have rented about 7 times as was unable to pay the increased maintenance charges.
10. We are disappointed with the contract and product as it has an increasing maintenance fee.
11. We have written to the company about the fees and advised that we wish to sell the timeshare.
12. They insist that in line with inflation and increasing costs there is nothing they can do.
13. We have paid for several advertisements to sell the timeshare without success.
14. Paid 16K with increasing and current maintenance of £800 pa with a current value of £6K is negative investment and furthermore gives rise to disinterest in visiting the facility. We will not be buying timeshare again.

Tuesday 30th June 2015 09:42 Mr & Mrs C - De Vere Belton Woods

we became aware of the company through friends.
There was a 14 day cooling off period.
We thought that exchanges would be easy but more have been occasions when it was not possible. We have never been able to exchange for Slaley Hall. We are very disappointed with that aspect.
Maintenance fees have doubled since purchase.
We have been unable to sell the lodge - we were told it would increase in value - it has decreased. It is of no value to our children after our death - as suggested - it is a liability.

18th November 2014 16:03 - Mr Ernest H, Essex - De Vere Cameron House, Scotland

"Had the timeshare for 21 years, but getting too old to travel, also difficult to afford the increase in fees... how do I get out of it?"

6th June 2014 16:51 - Dr N P, South Wales - De Vere Resorts

"We have 3 timeshares the above group. The maintenance fees have increased exponentially, at the same time the privileges have been eroded. We just want to get rid of all of them"

18th May 2014 16:07 - Mrs Yvonne H, Midlothian - Cameron House, Scotland

"I have had the timeshare for approx 12 years. There have been so many changes to the scheme that it has now become unusable. We were advised we could bank with De Vere at no cost and use at the many De Vere resorts and hotels they had. This is no longer true, you have to put your timeshare up for swap and hope someone wants your timeshare and you can use theirs. I have tried using interval but cannot find a time or property I can use."

15th May 2014 12:08 - Miss Kirsty G - De Vere Belton Woods

"Want to get rid of this. We have had enough of Fees that go up because other people do no pay."

12th May 2014 - Mr John T, Tyne & Wear - De Vere Slaley Hall

"Just want out no longer able to afford maintenance fees."

6th May 2014 18:18 - Michael G - De Vere Resorts / Slaley Hall

"We bought our timeshare in 2007. The maintenance fee in the last 7 years has escalated beyond all proportion... The initial fees were we thought reasonable @ £300 but we were not informed that these fees would increase and certainly not to £815 for this year! We feel we are being held to ransom with the fees rising to such a disproportionate level that it make no economic sense as we have not seen any improvement in service or upgrade of property. The company have said exactly as you have stated that we have to pay these fees until property is sold. I feel the fees are punative, with excessive hikes in fees to support the ever growing number of customers leaving the scheme... There must be a way out of this nightmare situation. We just wish to terminate our timeshare agreement"

28th April 2014 19:39 - Mr Michael C, South Yorkshire - De Vere Slaley Hall

"When we bought our timeshares in 1996 and subsequent years we were told that, if we did not want them for financial reasons, loss of jobs, health etc... we could return one or all timeshares. The company would then sell the timeshares and any monies due would be paid back to us. Due to excessive increases in fees we asked to return one timeshare to be told we could not do this - and, if we did not keep paying all the fees the, we would be referred to a debt collector."

17th April 2014 20:25 - Mr Terry M, Tyne & Wear - De Vere Resorts, Slaley Hall, Northumberland

"Purchased dedicated 3 bedroom villa in 2006 for £9810.00. Maintenance fees were verbally explained that they would only increase by around £25 per year, fee has now gone up by over 100%. Locked in until 2069, no longer value for money, fees not being spent on villa, can't see anyway out, it is like a financial noose around my neck."

6th April 2014 21:57 - Mr James R, Nottinghamshire - De Vere Slaley Hall

"I would like to get out of my timeshare in february at the above"

5th April 2014 00:11 - Mr Terry M, Tyne & Wear - De Vere Slaley Hall

"I have a villa at De Vere Slaley Hall. When I first took this out in 2006 I was told the maintenance would only ever increase by around £25, since 2006 my maintenance has increased by 100%, and it is now not value for money. I am held by the lease until 2069. I paid £9810.00 and look as if i will lose the lot as no one will want to buy it, not only this but the villa I have has never seen any of this maintenance I (and others) pay, this years increase was over 10%. I have complained but nothing ever gets done."

28th February 2014 11:19 - Mr Ron T, Nottinghamshire - De Vere, Cameron House

"Family circumstances mean we can no longer use our Timeshare and increasing maintenance fees are ridiculous."

About Timeshare Release

During the Timeshare sales boom of the 80s & 90s, potential buyers were lured in by the promise of affordable exotic holidays, flexible exchange programmes and the impression that Timeshare would be a valuable "investment".

In an industry with little or no regulation, high pressure sales tactics were rife and contract smallprint was often glossed over and explained away by sharp salespeople.

Many Timeshare buyers were therefore unaware that they were actually making significant, long term financial commitments on behalf of themselves and their families.

To find out how you can escape the Timeshare Trap please complete the short Timeshare Release Wizard now.

The Timeshare Trap

The timeshare trap

For many Timeshare owners, annual maintenance fees were barely considered token amounts in the early "honeymoon period" of ownership.

However, year-on-year increases imposed by the resorts over time now mean that the maintenance fees have risen to become substantial sums.

Owners are also facing the prospect of ongoing yearly fee increases and realising that they (and their families) are often committed to long term contracts for generations to come.

Please try our Future Fees Calculator to estimate your liabilities over the term of your Timeshare contract, based on an annual increase of 7.5%.

If you're concerned about rising fees and how to escape the Timeshare Trap, please contact us today.

Mr Steve R, Middlesex - RCI/Hollywood Mirage

“We 'swapped ‘another place in Tenerife for this in order to move to the points system. Since then, getting exchanges to desirable resorts proves almost impossible, irrespective of in-season or off-season.”

Mrs Rachael B, Yorkshire - RCI Europe

“I purchased my timeshare in 1999 and have been a timeshare member ever since. More often than not, I have not be able to go where I wanted and have ended up giving a few weeks to Friends, etc to book somewhere they wanted in order not to lose the weeks. I have then stayed in a hotel!! I am desperately trying to get rid of the timeshare and am now paying Timeshare Shop in Manchester to get rid of it for me.”
