5th January 2015 14:17 - Mrs Marion H - Wimpen

"Cannot afford to keep this up. 2 weeks in Lanzarote since 1982! No help in selling from Wimpen - excuses and obstacles all the time. Help and solution much appreciated."

20th November 2014 12:13 - Mr Peter T, Aberdeenshire - WimPen Resort with RCI Points

"We have a timeshare in Lanzarote that is in the RCI points scheme. Have had difficulty getting resorts and/or dates and want to get rid of the entire scheme."

27th October 2014 19:06 - Mr Andrew H - Wimpen, Los Claveles

“Just want out of timeshare!”

18th October 2014 12:04 - Mr Robert K - Wimpen

“I am now coming up to retirement and want to get rid of my timeshare as I can no longer afford the fees. Wimpen tell me that there have been no sales on my site for years and I would have to continue paying fees. Help, it’s a catch 22 situation!!!”

10th August 2014 13:37 - Mr John H, Wales - Wimpen

“Owned one week at Las Brisas for past 15 years and no longer have a use for it. Had it up for sale with the onsite sales team for 3 years but no interest. We were told when we purchased that our timeshare would increase in value and that we would be passing on a valuable asset to our children. This was patently not true and we are now in danger of leaving them with ever increasing maintenance costs. We have asked Wimpen if we can just hand the timeshare week back to them but have been told that this is not possible.”

2nd August 2014 17:11 - Mrs Nicky - Wimpen El Marques

“I have a family and can no longer afford the maintenance.”

29th July 2014 14:32 - Mrs Glenda C - El Marques, Tenerife - Wimpen

“Would like to know how to relinquish the timeshare.”

21st July 2014 23:46 - Mr Stuart W - Wimpen - Las Brisas

“We have been owners for 25 years but sold one week a few years ago. The remaining week has been for sale for 6/7 years with no result. Our payments are up to date but we have not used the timeshare for years and we need to get out of this trap.”

11th July 2014 20:21 - Mr Paul B, Suffolk - WimPen Leisure Management/Las Casitas

“We have held these time-shares for more than 30 years. We have used them only twice & had an exchange through RCI on about four occasions only. We have had frequent run-ins with WimPen over the years as when we have asked them to find other occupants they rarely are able to find anyone, so they say, although we know that on at least two occasions they have said the resort was fully booked. Also several weeks we have banked through RCI have been cancelled under some pretext or another so we want out but understand there is no market for any timeshare at the moment.”

9th July 2014 07:29 - Mr Gerald M, Scotland - Wimpen Sueno Azul

“Wimpen want to transfer me to a holding company for 1000pds would appreciate any comments.”

8th July 2014 16:10 - Mrs Amanda O - WimPen Leisure Management Bena Vista

“The owner of the timeshare interest has died, and none of the family are interested - there are apparently some fees owing - can we just ignore this?”

Tuesday 15th September 2015 05:28 Mr. P. - - Wimpen Leisure Ltd

We were on holiday in Lanzarote when we were approached by a young man selling raffle tickets. He checked the ticket and said we had won a prize, would we come back to the office to collect. At the office we were given glasses of cava plus a bottle we had won. We were then given the hard sell treatment. We initially declined saying it was too expensive but then we were offered a resale, which seemed a good deal at the time. We were never told that the contract was in perpetuity and our solicitor Florey-Valcarcel Abogado would handle the details. We have never seen our escitura.

Monday 27th April 2015 08:51 Mr B - Wimpem El Marques

We wish to get out of our timeshare as we are both too old to travel.
We were sold this as an investment and were told would be able to sell at anytime.
We do not want our children to inherit this debt

10th February 2015 08:07 - Mr Eddie T - Wimpen & RCI

"Even with great 'buying power' I never seemed to get offered something eqquivalent to what I already own, I have 2 bed that sleeps 6 - they offer a studio or 1 bed."

3rd June 2014 19:00 - Mrs Jean C, Hertfordshire - Wimpen los Claveles

“Asked them to sell our week 3years ago, due to my ill health. Still no result.”

26th May 2014 11:48 - Mrs Zenka W, Hertfordshire - Los Claveles, Los Cristianos, Tenerife - Wimpen

“We are a retired married couple. We have owned WimPen one week's time share for 20 years in Los Claveles. We have only enjoyed one holiday there with our then two teenage children, 19 years ago. It is not our type of holiday but we have tried on many occasions to exchange it against another holiday via RCI without success. The holidays on offer were of no use and they could not find us anything suitable for the time and the place we needed. The Dublin RCI office call us a few times a year to offer cottage holidays in the UK, often in a cold time of the year, which are not of interest. We are now burdened with an annual fee of around XXX Eur which is a huge sum to pay for something of no use to us. We are worried that if anything happens to either of us or both of us, our son Philip 35 and daughter Stefanie 32 will be burdened with this Management fees for the rest of their lives. This cannot be legally and morally right that we have to pay management fee for one week's time share. On top of that the Management fee has gone up from around XXX Eur p.a. to around XXX Eur p.a. And the fact that people have to pay it in perpetuity, including their children, for something they never use cannot be right either - or be fined? The time share already cost us around £XXXX to purchase, a lot of money 20 years ago, plus the Management fees over 20 years - a real scam. … We have tried to sell the time share but only scam companies deal with this sort of sale. You have to pay them huge sums of money to actually get rid of it... a nightmare. I know that Google is full of sorry tales like ours.”

23rd May 2014 14:43 - Mrs Jennifer C, Scotland - Scandinavian Village/Wimpen Resort Las Rosas

“I have now got 256000 points and cannot get anything anywhere with RCI that I wish to stop paying enormous fees etc. wish I could get rid of it.”

22nd May 2014 22:07 - Mr Michael, Yorkshire - Las Claveles, Wimpen

“In our 70's now, just cannot afford to, or want to, keep this going.”

30th April 2014 20:35 - Mr Phil B, Cornwall - El Marques Tenerife, Wimpen

“We've owned there since 1990 and are simply completely disillusioned with the whole sorry state of timeshare and its crazy costs.”

22nd March 2014 11:29 - Mrs Gillian R, Buckinghamshire - Los Claveles. Tenerife - Wimpen

“We have surrendered our ownership certificates to Wimpen Leisure in Tenerife, who sold us the timeshare originally, in order for them to sell it for us. But nothing has happened so far. They say it is likely to sell during the weeks we own which are in July. In the meantime we are due to pay £XXX plus for maintenance in May.”

20th March 2014 13:38 - Mrs Julie B, Lincolnshire – Wimpen, Tenerife

“Purchased jointly with ex-husband in the late 1980s under the Escetura system. Divorced 2006 and it was agreed in the settlement that the timeshare would be put into my name. However on learning that we then needed a Spanish NI number to do this and at a cost, my ex-husband sent me the forms back refusing to sign or pay up. For a few years I paid the maintenance fees myself, but only visited the resort once. I am now retired on a fixed income and have spoken to the resort on several occasions asking for advice, but they still send the account to me at my home address, although addressed to Mr C and Mrs. My ex-husband has never lived here. I have had debt collectors’ letters, last year I paid up having had to borrow the money and have received letters from the debt collectors again in the sum of £XXX. I have tried Citizens Advice regarding this and they acknowledge it is a joint debt but as I do not know where my ex is and they have my address I am liable. I live in a mobile home! A company called Blue Flag took £XXX from me last year with promises that they would be able to extricate me without having to find my ex, but after supplying copy documentation etc. they "disappeared" and according to the resort (Wimpen) and the debt collectors (Daniels Silverman) they have never heard of them.”

28th February 2014 17:20 - Mrs Susan H, West Yorkshire - Club Bena Vista, Wimpen

“The resort is not what it was. We have not been for years now, we were talked into points instead of weeks by a rep and although we have used these at different resorts we now like, the cost keeps escalating. There is a discussion of the resort closing so where does that leave us.”

10th February 2014 11:22 - Mr Dennis B, Dorset - Wimpen Tenerife Los Gigantes

“We are both in our 80s we have let our passports lapse and both have medical problems.”

4th February 2014 05:34 - Mrs Elizabeth M, Buckinghamshire - Wimpen Leisure Complex in Tenerife

“We have had this timeshare for 25 years but haven't used it for about five years. We have an escritura for the two weeks. We are now retired and cannot afford it, we asked them to take it back but say they cannot, so it is on their resale programme. We owe last year’s maintenance and now this years, but cannot afford it and they are sending the debt collection agents after me help ... They have said I need to pay all amounts owed and XXXX euros to hand it back.”

4th January 2014 22:09 - Mr John B, Hertfordshire - Wimpen los Claveles Tenerife

“Unable due to medical reasons to use our Timeshare permanently.”

23rd December 2013 11:37 - Mr B C, West Sussex - Las Rosas, Wimpen

“Now aged 77 on benefit savings depleted have been unable to use timeshare for 17 years.”

About Timeshare Release

During the Timeshare sales boom of the 80s & 90s, potential buyers were lured in by the promise of affordable exotic holidays, flexible exchange programmes and the impression that Timeshare would be a valuable "investment".

In an industry with little or no regulation, high pressure sales tactics were rife and contract smallprint was often glossed over and explained away by sharp salespeople.

Many Timeshare buyers were therefore unaware that they were actually making significant, long term financial commitments on behalf of themselves and their families.

To find out how you can escape the Timeshare Trap please complete the short Timeshare Release Wizard now.

The Timeshare Trap

The timeshare trap

For many Timeshare owners, annual maintenance fees were barely considered token amounts in the early "honeymoon period" of ownership.

However, year-on-year increases imposed by the resorts over time now mean that the maintenance fees have risen to become substantial sums.

Owners are also facing the prospect of ongoing yearly fee increases and realising that they (and their families) are often committed to long term contracts for generations to come.

Please try our Future Fees Calculator to estimate your liabilities over the term of your Timeshare contract, based on an annual increase of 7.5%.

If you're concerned about rising fees and how to escape the Timeshare Trap, please contact us today.

Mr Steve R, Middlesex - RCI/Hollywood Mirage

“We 'swapped ‘another place in Tenerife for this in order to move to the points system. Since then, getting exchanges to desirable resorts proves almost impossible, irrespective of in-season or off-season.”

Mrs Rachael B, Yorkshire - RCI Europe

“I purchased my timeshare in 1999 and have been a timeshare member ever since. More often than not, I have not be able to go where I wanted and have ended up giving a few weeks to Friends, etc to book somewhere they wanted in order not to lose the weeks. I have then stayed in a hotel!! I am desperately trying to get rid of the timeshare and am now paying Timeshare Shop in Manchester to get rid of it for me.”
